Korea University Sejong Center for Korean Language and Culture Holds 2022 Sejong City Hangeul Love Club and Hangeul Sheriff Farewell Ceremony

Korea University Sejong Center for Korean Language and Culture held the 2022 Sejong Special Self-Governing City Hangeul Love Club and Hangeul Sheriff Farewell Ceremony at Sukwon Business Hall.

Participants of the Sejong City Hangeul Love Club and the Hangeul Sheriff were active for five months from June 2022. Awards were given to excellent participants at this ceremony.

A total of 19 people attended the event, including ten members of the Hangeul Love Club and Hangeul Sheriff, five members of the Korea University Sejong Center for Korean Language and Culture, including Director Lee Chang-min, and four assistant instructors.

The Hangeul Love Club held a total of ten meetings while active and carried out projects such as researching Hangeul-related cultural resources which include public buildings and commemorative sculptures, researching Korean signboards, and making Hangeul envelopes for sending congratulations and condolences.

Meanwhile, the Hangeul sheriff organized activities to prepare appropriate maintenance plans by finding difficult Chinese characters, jargon, authoritative e-x-p-r-e-s-s-i-o-ns, and discriminatory e-x-p-r-e-s-s-i-o-ns, as well as surveying public language usages such as public information boards, notices, promotional materials, and press releases in Sejong City.

The activity reports of both organizations: ▲Let's change the public language of Sejong City in 2022 ▲Sejong City's beautiful Korean signboard ▲Sejong City Hangeul Building and Sculpture Research Data Book and Hangeul congratulatory and condolence envelopes are available for free on the 1st floor of Sejong City Hall and each district office starting from December.

All materials can be downloaded free of charge from the Korea University Sejong Center for Korean Language and Culture website (https://sejongurimal.korea.ac.kr).

Kim Tae-gil (male, 71 years old) and Gyeong Min-seon (female, 23 years old) were selected as excellent participants from the Hangeul Love Club, and Kang Seon (male, 61 years old) and Lee Dae-woo (male, 53 years old) were selected as the best Hangeul sheriffs.

Mr. Kang, who was selected as one of the best Hangeul sheriffs, expressed his thoughts on the experience, saying, “While participating in various Hangeul activities, I was captivated by how cool and efficient our writing is. As a citizen of Sejong City, I felt proud to contribute even the least bit of help.”
