Coronavirus Update – Revised Spring Term Dates
Dear Korea University Students,
As February is usually a month of excitement and anticipation with the start of the new semester, we regretfully announce that due to the spread of the novel coronavirus in Korea, we have decided, out of an abundance of caution, to cancel a number of events including the commencement ceremony, graduation ceremony and freshman welcome ceremony. In addition, we have also taken the following measures:
We have delayed the start of the semester by two weeks from March 2 (Monday) to March 16 (Monday) and extended the end date of the semester by one week to June 26 (Friday). This will shorten the 2020 Spring semester from 16 to 15 weeks. However, to ensure we maintain the high quality of our educational environment we will, if needed, schedule additional class time or utilize online resources.
To further ensure the health and well-being of the Korea University family while doing our part as a responsible community member, we have formed a Health Center Task Force. It will focus on implementing, administering and evaluating preventive measures to proactively follow the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s guidelines in support of prevention.
Please be sure to follow all relevant instructions to ensure your health and safety during this difficult time. In addition to the procedures mentioned above, we are working with the appropriate government authorities to monitor the situation. We are optimistic that the protocols we have in place will see us through this challenging time.
Wishing you a safe, healthy and productive 2020 Spring semester.
Dr. Jin Taek Chung
President, Korea University
