Sejong SW Centered University Project Group Operates Forum on ‘Data Collection Standardization Strategies for Advancing SW·AI-Based Education’

 

From July 26 to August 23, the Sejong SW Centered University Project Group at Korea University Sejong Campus operated a forum titled ‘Data Collection Strategies for Advancing SW·AI-Based Education’ over four sessions.

 

A total of 46 experts (including overlapping participants) from the public, private, academic, industrial, and research sectors in Korea and abroad took part in the forum, engaging in discussions on standardizing education data collection, analysis, and feedback processes based on learning analytics.

 

The forum brought together international scholars from the University of Virginia, Old Dominion University, and Texas A&M University, alongside domestic experts from the Seoul Education Research & Information Institute, Classum Co., Ltd., and Bubblecon Co., Ltd. Discussions ranged from global research trends to practical field applications and strategies for standardization.

 

Faculty members from Korea University introduced AI application cases in which customized questions and individualized feedback are generated based on learners’ cognitive, social, and emotional data across different learning domains. Experts from education related institutions shared approaches for data interoperability using international standards such as LTI and OneRoster, as well as the conditions required to integrate differing data collection criteria across institutions. 

 

They also emphasized the importance of human-centered learning analytics by incorporating HCAI (Human-Centered AI) and HCD (Human-Centered Design) principles into profile design and indicator validation processes.

 

Dr. Kwon Hyunji, who oversaw the forum on behalf of the Sejong SW Centered University Project Group, stated that if SW·AI-based educational innovation centered on standardized education data collection expands from the individual (micro) level to organizational (meso) and national (macro) levels, Korea has the potential to lead global education culture beyond K-pop to K-EDU. She added that achieving this vision requires rich platforms for interaction where experts from the public, private, academic, industrial, and research sectors can share their expertise.

 

The forum also aligned with national-level initiatives for digital innovation in education, confirming the potential to establish common evidence for practice, research, and policy by enabling educational institutions, private entities, and government bodies to collect data using shared schemas and verify quality through standardized procedures.

 

Building on these discussions, the Sejong SW-Centered University Project Group plans to prioritize the development of a learning management system (LMS) at the university level, equipped with education data–driven SW·AI competency assessment and prescription functions, as well as a comprehensive performance management framework.
