Full-scale support for global certification of regional companies

 

Korea University Sejong Campus, in cooperation with the Korea office of the Vehicle Certification Agency under the UK Department for Transport (Vehicle Certification Agency Korea, hereinafter referred to as VCA Korea), an official vehicle certification body affiliated with the UK Department for Transport, is establishing the ‘Future Mobility Global Certification Support Center’ to support the global expansion of future mobility companies in the Sejong region.

 

On December 5, the Korea University Sejong RISE Project Group and the Sejong Research and Business Cooperation Foundation held the opening ceremony and MOU signing for the ‘Future Mobility Global Certification Support Center of the VCA Korea’ in the Research and Business Cooperation Building. Key officials from both institutions attended the ceremony, including Lee Changho, Deputy Director of the Sejong Research and Business Cooperation Foundation of Korea University, and Lee Jongdeok, Executive Vice President of VCA Korea.

 

VCA Korea is the Korean branch of the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) under the UK Department for Transport and is an official type of approval authority designated by the UK government.

 

It holds the authority to issue international type approvals in the fields of automobiles, batteries, electronic components, and eco friendly and autonomous vehicles, and is the only mobility related European E-mark certification body in Korea authorized to act on behalf of multiple global certifications, including UNECE regulations and UK and EU certifications.

 

Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to jointly establish and operate the ‘Future Mobility Global Certification Support Center’ within Korea University Sejong Campus and to promote initiatives including support for European and UK type approval and technical certification for future mobility companies in Sejong and across Korea; joint operation of international testing and type approval processes and exchange of technology and personnel; identification of technology commercialization and R&D cooperation projects linked to the RISE project and government-supported programs; and strengthening international cooperation governance through global networks.

 

Lee Changho, Deputy Director of the Sejong Research and Business Cooperation Foundation of Korea University, stated, “This agreement is particularly meaningful in that an industry-led university under the Sejong RISE Project is directly connected with a world-class vehicle certification authority.

 

We will strengthen practical support so that future mobility companies in the Sejong region can respond more systematically to overseas type approval and technical regulations and leap forward into the global market.”

 

Kim Minjun, Professor of Research and Business Cooperation at the Korea University Sejong RISE Project Group, stated, “The Future Mobility Global Certification Support Center is not merely an advisory channel, but an execution platform that helps companies design testing and certification strategies from the early stages of development and carry them through to actual type approval. By linking with the Sejong RISE Project, we will integrate testing, certification, technology commercialization, and investment into a single flow to help Sejong-based companies build globally recognized references.”

 

Lee Jongdeok, Executive Vice President of VCA Korea, stated, “Through cooperation with Korea University Sejong Campus, a foundation will be established for future mobility companies in the Sejong region to systematically prepare international certification requirements from the early stages of development. We will fulfill our role as a partner for global market entry, including the UK and Europe.”
