
On January 1, Professor Baek Seungpil of the Department of Bioinformatics Engineering was inaugurated as the 11th President of the Korean Society for Marine Biotechnology.
Founded in 2005, the Korean Society for Marine Biotechnology is an academic organization that aims to promote academic advancement and applied research across all fields of marine biotechnology, and to contribute to the development of academic culture in the marine bio field through exchange and cooperation among researchers.
Professor Baek Seungpil has served at Korea University Sejong Campus since 2008, where he has operated the Nano and Artificial Biotechnology Laboratory, and since 2021 has led the Regional Innovation Leading Research Center for Biological Clock-Based Anti-Aging Convergence.
Since 2010, he has conducted research on the imitation and application of biomineralization mechanisms through projects such as the Marine and Polar Original Technology Program of the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Marine Biotechnology Program of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and through this work has maintained continuous academic exchange with the marine bio field.
In addition, since 2020, he has served as an expert committee member of the Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion, contributing to the development of academic culture through marine bio related research and policy advisory activities.
In his inaugural address, Professor Baek stated, “As a society representing marine biotechnology science and technology in Korea, we will contribute to the creation of national R&D policies, strengthen linkages with industry and regional fields, and play a leading role in discovering new industries that connect the ocean and inland regions.”
