Introduction to Department

The ground-breaking change in the international society in the new century is that we might need English as an official language of the country. Especially, international political conditions, cultural exchange and economic development are re-adjusting the status of English as a language used in specific regions but as a more universal one. In this trend, there is no doubt that Department of English Language and Literature has already been established as a central academic subject within the university.

In such a global trend, College of Humanities Department of English Language and Literature was established in 1980, producing more than 1,000 graduates until now. What they have done in their own communities and differed from students of other departments comes from the educational environment uniquely provided by Department of English Language and Literature. Further from functional English learning, students will learn about related cultural backgrounds to contribute to the society and promote their own development based on such fundamental understanding of English.

Department of English Language and Literature provides many more opportunities such as voluntary activities other than the curricula so that the students can understand and develop their English skills in places other than lecture rooms. For example, EDA (English Drama Association) and NEXUS, the English Newspaper published by Department of English Language and Literature help students to check their English skills on their own and exchange with students from other colleges and departments so that they can benefit from more improved communication skills in English.
