Introduction to Department

Economics is a study which has provided the theoretical backgrounds for economic development of the Republic of Korea and bears a very important standing domestically and overseas. Starting from studies on the principles of market economy, it is a comprehensive area reviewing various realistic economic issues and analyzing policy alternatives. It deals with pricing and price changes in the market, decision as to national income, economic growth and international balance of payments while analyzing the problems not solved in the market system such as public goods and environmental problems represented as social substructure.

Department of Economics of College of Business & Economics, established in 1980, has produced excellent workforce to lead economic development applying basic economics areas, history of economy, history of economic philosophy and theory of economic system. A significant number of graduates from Department of Economics are working actively for large companies, banks, stock firms, government-invested institutions, research agencies and press sources. Some others deepen their knowledge studying at graduate schools.

  1. 01What aptitudes are appropriate to enter the department
    Economics is a basic socials science emphasizing rationality. This is the study in which students who try to save allowances to help others in need, are future-oriented with a dream, work hard for prosperity of the nation and the world and prefer reasonable and scientific ways of thinking can excel.
  2. 02What are the characteristics of this department?
    Economics is often referred to as Queen of Social Sciences. This is because economics is a scientific area that provides people with the standards to make a choice as they live together. It plays an important role in decision making of individuals, societies and states. Economics is a study of choice and judgment and has led economic development of the Republic of Korea. It is a realistic area which is very important both in Korea and abroad.
  3. 03What will we study in this department?
    Economics, starting from research of the principles of market economy, is a comprehensive study to review many problems in real economy and analyze policy alternatives. It deals with pricing and price fluctuations in the market, national income, economic growth and international balance of trade and analyzes the problems not solved by the market system such as public goods and environment problems represented as a substructure of the society.
  4. 04Are their extracurricular activities?
    <Yeomyeong> is a seminar group specializing in political economy while <Soomsori> is dedicated to reading activities. They host seminars and debates once or more every month. <Shinsaebyeok> is a group of people singing popular folksongs, practicing regularly and performing once or twice every year. There is also a basketball group, making older and younger members of the group closer and more familiar.
  5. 05What are the career paths after graduation?
