Korea University Sejong Campus Conducts Drone Disinfection to Prevent COVID-19

Graduate Park Sanghyeon Donates Preventive Drone

Block Risk of Infection by Creating a Safe Environment

“I am very happy to help my school and juniors even in a small way”

On March 20, starting from the main gate, the Korea University Sejong Campus, together with graduate Park Sanghyeon, conducted a drone disinfection program to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The disinfection program, which was implemented through a talent donation from the International Drone Company specializing in drone control services and run by Park Sanghyeon, was designed to prevent the risk of infection among members of the school by creating a safe campus environment.

Using a total of three drones, the disinfection was done around multiuse facilities on the campus such as the main gate, the east gate, the sports complex, the dormitories, and the buildings of the colleges. Korea University Sejong Campus controlled the campus population and cars beforehand for effective prevention and safety and used a speaker drone to announce the operation of the program. Also, they used chemicals that are harmless to humans, and informed students, staff, and faculty in advance through the school’s website and campus e-mails, which was met by a favorable response from students.

Two disinfecting drone operators, including Park Sanghyeon, who is a founding member of the startup club belonging to the Sejong Job Center, and the CEO of IDCo, and three student experts from the KU Creative Drone Academy of Korea University Sejong Campus, participated voluntarily in the disinfecting of the campus. Also, the Sejong Total Student’s Union and teachers joined in and made efforts to contribute to ensuring a safe disinfection.

CEO Park Sanghyeon said, “While universities and communities are having difficulties coping with COVID-19, and I was thinking about how I could help my school and community as a graduate, I came up with the idea of using drones to help prevent the spread of the virus.” He added, “I hope it proves to be effective.”

Korea University Sejong Campus is not only disinfecting the area outside but is also making further efforts for preventing the spread of COVID-19, such as setting up thermal observation devices, providing hand sanitizers, and controlling access to campus buildings. Also, they disinfected each building and multiuse facility three times, and will conduct a fourth disinfection on March 28.
