Make Joint Agreement to Cope with COVID-19 and Fine Dust

Coping with COVID-19 and Fine Dust by conducting practical joint research

Operating a joint academia-research program involving the exchange of talent and research content, and a student internship program

Vice President Kim Young of Korea University Sejong Campus and Director Park Miseon from the Sejong City Public Health and Environment Research Institute agreed to work together on the exchange of technology and the training of local talent to solve major current challenges such as COVID-19 and the increase in fine dust.

On March 26, in the Korea University Sejong Campus Administration Building, Korea University Sejong Campus and the Sejong City Public Health and Environment Research Institute concluded an MOU to discover creative talent and exchange research.

Both institutions plan to jointly hold events such as regular forums to exchange research and creative talent, to jointly operate an academia-research program and a student internship program, to train professional manpower for public health and the environment, and to share research equipment and facilities.

Under the MOU, the two institutions plan to collaborate in order to cope with pressing public health and environment issues and solve the fundamental causes underlying COVID-19, fine dust, and African swine fever. They plan to develop biomedicines to treat infections and improve immunity and conduct practical collaboration regarding sensing and disposal of toxins and micro-pollutants.

Also, they will not only respond more systematically to various issues that threaten the health and environment of Sejong citizens, but also train practical talent in-house.

Vice President Kim from Korea University Sejong Campus said, “The research and forum, the student internship program, and the sharing of research equipment and facilities to respond to these issues will allow us to train excellent talents, reinforce our research capability, and help a lot to improve the quality of Sejong citizen’s lives at the same time.” He added, “I hope the two institutions form an excellent cooperative model through close cooperation that results in success for all involved.”

Director Park from the Public Health and Environment Research Institute said, “The MOU is the first agreement between the Public Health and Environment Research Institute and the top university in the region, and it will prove to be a starting point for collaboration in government and academia related fields, as well.” She ended off with, “We will reinforce our preemptive response capability to live up to our status as the administrative capital city.”
