Korea University Sejong Campus Records Top Marks in 2020 QS Evaluation

50th overall in the field of archeology, ranked fourth overall among universities in Asia

89th overall in the field of pharmacy, 1st out of 17 newly established colleges of pharmacy in the country

Korea University Sejong Campus (Vice-president Kim Young) achieved top marks in the ‘2020 QS World University Rankings’.

In the presentation of the UK’s Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2020, Korea University Sejong Campus’ Faculty of Cultural Heritage Convergence ranked 50th in the field of archeology and the College of Pharmacy ranked 89th in the field of pharmacy. This was the first time for the school to achieve a rank in the upper range in the field of Archeology, and the College of Pharmacy placed first among the 17 newly established pharmaceutical colleges in the country.

The QS World University Rankings consist of four categories: Academics (Research), Academic Reputation, Graduate Reputation/Employer Reputation, and Citations per paper, and an H-index that is related to Professor Productivity and Influence.

The Faculty of Cultural Heritage Convergence has advanced in terms of academic exchanges with China, Turkey, and Vietnam, among others, and has undertaken various excavation programs. Also, by publishing numerous articles in SCI level and foreign academic journals, the Faculty of Cultural Heritage Convergence has strengthened its research capabilities.

Additionally, to improve the faculty’s research capability and education quality, they were able to attract non-school academic research funding and an expansion of school employees. The Faculty of Cultural Heritage Convergence’s archeology area ranked fourth overall among universities in Asia in the QS World University Ranking. Especially, it ranked 16th worldwide in the Academic Reputation section of the QS evaluation.

The College of Pharmacy has completed 153 high quality research projects in the past three years and has received around 12.2 billion won in research funding. Also, with startup support the College of Pharmacy has been selected as the main research laboratory for science and engineering as designated by the Ministry of Education in 2019, raising the status of the university. The College of Pharmacy moved up 10 ranks to place 89th overall in the QS evaluation.

Korea University Vice-president Kim Young said, “Not only did Korea University (Seoul/Sejong) rank 83rd in the QS World University Rankings 2019, they achieved great success in this year’s evaluations as well. With the Sejong campus’ strong education and firm research infrastructure, we will bear meaningful fruit in the future.”

Professor Lee Hongjong of the Faculty of Cultural Heritage Convergence said, “I think this high ranking we achieved is due to the endless efforts we have made for the past 30 years. We will continue to raise the status of Korea University in specialized/differentiated research and excavation, and in operational areas.”

The dean of the College of Pharmacy, Jeon Yeongho, said, “I would like to thank everyone who has made efforts for the establishment of this college and for the high ranking from the QS evaluation. We would be grateful for the support and interest of the combination six-year system for the College of Pharmacy that starts in 2022.”
