KUSSO Holds College Student Talent Sharing Camp in Summer Vacation

From August 3 to 21, the ‘2020 21st Summer Holiday University Students’ Talent Sharing Camp’ took place at regional community child centers and local schools. Sponsored by the Blue Lighthouse Korea Student Aid Foundation and hosted by the Korea University volunteer organization, KUSSO, this mentoring program was held in the form of a camp that lasted from four to six days with talent contributions made that related to future careers for elementary, middle and high school students that fell within educational blind spots.

During the first half of 2020, KUSSO enrolled thirty participants and had three mentors in charge of ten students each. The university student mentors visited the Open Study Room Children’s Center and Geumsan High School located in the Chungnam region and provided elementary, middle, and high school students with inspirational programs such as study guidance, special activities, career counseling, and more.

On August 3rd, KUSSO started off the first camp program at a community child center located in Seocheon, Chungnam. The mentors planned many fun and exciting programs such as ‘Good Sense,’ ‘Career Marble,’ ‘I’m an Influencer,’ and more. Furthermore, in order to prevent COVID-19 infections, all participants had to record their temperature and go into self-quarantine for fifteen days before entering the camp, and frequently wore face masks and used hand sanitizers during the camp.

Seo Jungeun, a student from Digital Business who was in charge of this year’s summer camp, stated that, “I want to thank my teammates who gladly participated in the camp even though it was during the holidays.” She also added, “It’s a bit worrisome that the rainy season is extending, but we hope to finish the camp successfully.”

In related news, KUSSO was selected for the ‘2020 Rural Region Talent Sharing College Student Support Program’ business hosted by the Korean Council of University Social Service and is planning an educational camp for four days from August 18 to 21 at a community child center located in Nonsan. College students participating in the camp will have an opportunity to plan and engage in volunteer work which will help develop personal morals and the ability of creative leadership, as well as prepare a space for whole-person education in which community children can share their dreams and hopes.
