<Faculty of Display and Semiconductor Physics Hosts Special Lecture in 2019 2nd Semester Academic Special Lecture Series, ‘Colloquium’>

On September 25, in room 322 of the Heavy Ion Accelerator Testing Facility of Korea University Sejong Campus, the Faculty of Display and Semiconductor Physics hosted a special lecture as part of ‘Colloquim,’ its 2019 2nd Semester Academic Special Lecture series. This lecture, organized by the Faculty of Display and Semiconductor Physics, concerned ‘Liquid Crystal (LC),’ and explained the function and utilization of this material. Professor Kim Youngki from Chemical Engineering in Postech, who is current studying the features and development of advanced flexible materials, was the guest speaker for the lecture.

Professor Kim informed participants that LC is being used in various fields such as smartphone production and medicines, and in the airline industry. He described LC in detail and stated, “Liquid Crystal is a precious material which can be highly utilized for medical purposes.” He added, “I am studying a medicine for hypertensive patients using one feature of LC that resists and amplifies external reactions.”

Han Sooji from the Faculty of Display and Semiconductor Physics said, “I have heard a lot about liquid crystal in my daily life, but I had absolutely no idea that there was a material called Liquid Crystal.” Additionally, she mentioned, “I hope smart Liquid Crystal becomes commercialized in a large number of fields.” The next lectures in the 2019 2nd Semester, ‘Colloquium,’ Academic Special Lecture series will be held on October 2, and November 13 and 20.
